Happy beginning of the school year!!

The weather here in Denver gifted me some heat rash and a grumpy mood, but the summer finally broke and we are cruising now towards fall. What a time to be alive!

As we make plans and hopes and dreams for our fall, may we prioritize access, joy, and curiosity in our work as educators. One of my most profound joys is realizing how much we as humans are all the same yet uniquely designed to make the world better. My way to make the world better is through building bridges between cultures and writing sentences. What’s yours?

~Around the World Passport Family Nights. Kids and caring adults travel to different stations and learn a bit about different cultures through games, pictures, art, language, books, etc. Can also be adapted during the daytime school hours.

~Author visit. Meet the author (Me!) See my books close-up and play a couple games as we explore a country.

~Fundraiser. Meet your money goal by selling books and literacy, not cavities!

Last but not least! An incredible former professor of mine donated enough money to gift these young scholars (little versions of me!) magnets from Uruguay. 🇺🇾 We talked about sports, art, and geography of this country. They and their teachers were so excited to have a connection to a new place thousands of miles from their home. One 5 year old kid asked me, “You know..do you think this thing can stick on my fridge at home?” I said absolutely because it’s magnetic. He says, “Ok cool. I’m gonna put it on my fridge so that I can look at it everyday.”
